The End of a Era - Why I Quit Natural Hair Blogging

After 7+ years of blogging and vlogging about natural hair, I have officially decided to shut down the BeauTIFFul Curls blog and begin a new chapter of my creative life.

What's going on?

I’m sure you’ve noticed the lack of blog posts and videos in the past year or so, and to be honest I’ve been debating what I'd like to do with my platforms. The past few years have not been easy - as I imagine they have not been for you as well. I've been taking long breaks ever since my New York journey began to get rough: moving in and out of apartments, losing my job due to a company relocation, and more. In addition to me trying to settle into my NYC adult life, I experienced one of the biggest losses ever - my stepdad passed away after battling cancer for almost two long years. His death took a huge toll on my emotional and mental state, which had me just barely grazing by without losing it. I began to prioritize what was most important and my blog took a major hit. But thankfully as I mentioned in a previous post I found a job and found healthy ways to cope with my loss.

Since I've been gone the blogging world made a major shift towards Instagram - a platform which I did not previously work on nearly enough (but I am now!). Now that I'm focused on creating better content, consistency, and developing an actual editorial calendar I can no longer halfway manage things like I used to.

What about your old blog?

From now on the BeauTIFFul Curls blog will be directed to my tumblr account where I have been sharing natural hair inspiration photos for years. Follow me on there by clicking here - beautiffulcurls.tumblr.com.

What's Next?

Blogging - I hate to be one of those bloggers with a cliche "I'm back!" announcement but I really am back! I will continue to talk about natural hair as well as explore my other interests - travel, health/fitness, style, and art.

Weight loss - Your girl is trying to get snatched! Well at least eat better/work out a few times a week. So far in the past few months I've noticed some non scale victories like better fitting clothing and improved energy levels.

Music festivals & travel - I'm going to a bunch of music festivals this summer *insert cheesy grin here* and have three bada** vacations planned for the rest of the year. I'm going to Amsterdam in May, Jamaica in September and Barcelona, Spain / Lisbon, Portugal for my birthday in November!

Life improvements - I'm currently looking in to getting back in to school and taking classes on web design, so I'll definitely be talking a bit about that once things happen.

Ending Thoughts

Here's one of my favorite quotes at the moment. Hopefully it'll inspire you as much as it inspired me.
The only cure to all this madness; is too dream, far and wide. If possibility doesn't knock, create a damn door. If the shoe doesn't fit, don't make it. If the journey your traveling seems to far fetched and wild beyond your imagination; continue on it. Great things come to the risk takers.
And last but not least, live today; here, right now, you'll thank your future self for it later.

Thank you for your support and stay tuned for even more content and progress from me and my blog.

  1. I'm so sorry to hear about your stepdad. I lost mine several years ago, also, after a very, very long illness. Grief is something you get to move through, rather than around, and everyone processes in their own unique way with no set timeline. I sense you already know that. :-) <3 Re: your blog - yes! Sometimes it's just best to lay aside the old and start over with the new - and let that take you on a journey. {{{Big hugs and love to you, fellow blogger!}}}
